i agree with Whit and Rafer. i really wish i could see my comments on my dashboard along with notes and reblogs.

The comments on other sites when they link to things I’ve written should give you a pretty clear idea of why I don’t have comments enabled here.

Rafer sez:
Seems like neither Marco or DavidK likes comments, which probably has a lot to do with why Tumblr has none integrated. Many of us make do with Disqus, but it’s only a partial solution. The Tumblr dashboard is super, and my homepage for the last year, in a way that no feedreader or WordPress knows how to be. Excluding comments from it is a problem.

In my use of blogging, I can’t count on everyone I deal with to have their own blog, never mind their own Tumblr. I can appreciate founder aesthetics as a design constraint, but offering an API to insert dashboard items would be very, very helpful.

whit agrees. Reference the six-degrees-of-indentation that is the bastard offspring of Tumblr users’ “reblog to comment” behavior.

Whit reblogs to comment, thereby adding another stain to his soul: I have the same hunch, and wrote it up a little while...
